New background graphics and other tweaks
The most visible thing in this update are the new background graphics which reveal themselves once you climb up high enough. There's also a little something waiting for the player at the top:
I'm not yet sure what the ending will be (or if it even is an ending?). I went for a feeling.
I also made a bunch of tweaks to the level and gameplay:
- Added some spikes here and there to prevent the player from accidentally swinging themselves to awkward places and losing progress (there's still plenty to do on this though).
- Added damping to the grappling hook swing so that the effect of accelerating the swing with arrow keys is clearer to the player.
- Added one more challenge to the end of the level. I'm really stretching it with the few mechanics that I've implemented so far.
I've been playing Animal Well lately, and really fallen in love with it. That, and the feelings the new background graphics evoke in me has inspired me to try and add some exploration and metroidvania style elements to the game. I think the art style could support that kind of thing very nicely. I'll be experimenting with that stuff next.
Cheers!
